Getting accurate percentages of success rates can be dicey, this is because the eventual percentage depends on the various treatment approaches used and also the patients involved. The chances of success in IVF for different couples is contingent on factors such as age, number of embryos transferred and even the quality of eggs.

HOW MUCH IS IVF AT GEORGE’S MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTRE?

We cannot give an exact price until you have met with the team and have been examined. Factors like, whose eggs will be used or if third-party IVF will be suggested to you based on your session with us is how your overall price is determined.

WHAT IS THIRD PARTY IVF?

Third party IVF means that asides the male and female partners, the help of a third party is enlisted either as egg or sperm donors, and sometimes a surrogate (a woman that carries the baby belonging to the couple).

IS SURROGACY AN OPTION FOR ME?

The indications for surrogacy are congenital absence of the ovaries/testes/uterus; men with azoospermia; women who have had a hysterectomy for carcinoma or hemorrhage but who still have functioning ovaries; women who have suffered repeated miscarriages and for whom the chance of ever carrying a baby to term is remote; women who repeatedly fail to implant a normal healthy embryo in their uterus; or certain medical conditions, such as cancer or heart or renal disease, which might threaten the life of a woman.

When couples are incapable of producing sperm or egg as result of cancer, renal or heart diseases, surrogacy is suggested.

Also, women who have suffered multiple miscarriages, repeatedly been unable to implant a healthy embryo in their uterus, had hysterectomies e.t.c. are advised to choose surrogacy. It is generally for women whose chance of carrying a baby to full term is unlikely.

HOW LONG DOES THE IVF PROCESS TAKE?

On an average, the IVF process takes about three to four weeks from the first consultation to the embryo transfer process.

DOES IVF HAVE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

The side effects of IVF are rare, some women experience weight gain, breast tenderness, bloating, abdominal pain or very rarely Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS).

CAN I CHOSE THE GENOTYPE & SEX OF MY BABY AT GEORGE’S MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTRE?

YES. We understand that some of our patients and clients for personal reasons or various factors might prefer a particular gender, that’s why we offer services like Pre-Implementation Genetic Testing is a technique used to identify the sex of embryos before it is implanted. It is also used to identify embryos with genetic abnormalities and limit the passage of inherited diseases to offsprings.

This is only possible through the use of IVF embryos.

ARE BABIES BORN THROUGH IVF AS NORMAL AS THOSE BORN NATURALLY?

So far, there’s no evidence to suggest that babies born through IVF are abnormal. They do not have any greater risk of abnormality because they were conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF)

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE EMBRYOS UNUSED?

It depends on the couple, they could donate them or cryopreserve them to use some other time.

WHAT IS CRYOPRESERVATION?

It is the preservation of gametes (egg, sperm) or embryos for use in Assisted Reproductive Technique (ART). It involves the freezing and storage of these reproductive cells.
